What Causes Whooshing And Heartbeat Sound In Ear After Treating Eardrum Rupture?

My left eardrum ruptured about six weeks ago. I went to the doctor and got antibiotic pills and drops for my ear and a steroid shot. I went for a follow up visit the next week. Most pain was gone but ear still stopped up and i couldn t hear. I have a whooshy feeling in my ear and can hear my heartbeat. I hold my nose and breathe to clear my ear so I don t feel stopped up but it immediately stops up again. What should I do?

Hello there,
the whooshing sound that you hear is because of the ruptured eardrum. It has not healed well or there is something that is preventing it from healing fully(Maybe a pus or fluid buildup). You also have to stop clearing your ear as a habit. The eardrum is like a thin curtain stretched between your ear and nose. If you keep trying to clear your ear it does not stay still long enough for it to heal or get repaired.
The heartbeat sound that you hear is because of reduced conduction in your ear. Once your eardrum heals that sound will also disappear.
Continue the ear drops and you should be healed in another week or two.

Hope this helps,
