Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Whooshing noise in my right ear constant and getting to the point of causing me anxiety and parinoia. Got to ENT specialist tomorrow very nervous. When putting pressure on my artery in my neck it will stop but continues again when I let go. Sleepless nights, and OTC sleeping pills are driving me nuts as well. Last night I seriously thought maybe I should just take a lot of sleeping pills but I m over that now... Just looking for answers
Hello and welcome to HCM, Hearing whooshing sounds in ear is called tinnitus. Tinnitus can occur due to various disorders of outer ear, middle ear or inner ear. The association of tinnitus with pulsations in the artery in the neck is suggestive of high blood pressure. Thus, I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist and also to get your blood pressure checked. If blood pressure is high, it needs to be controlled by anti-hypertensives. The tinnitus is expected to reduced after treatment with anti-hypertensives. If the tinnitus still persists then there is probability that there is some disorder of middle or inner ear and appropriate treatment is required.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
