What Causes Withdrawal Bleeding While On Lo Loestrin Fe?

I have been taking birth control (Lo Loestirn Fe) for about 5 months now and still experience breakthrough bleeding when i am taking the active pills. I am often in discomfort and experience pain when urinating. Sometimes there is pink/brown discharge and I feel very caught off guard by this random bleeding. How can I stop this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Unfortunately, breakthrough bleeding is a possible side effect of oral contraception and is not predicted and is difficult to control.
On the other hand, you will need to have a check to rule out other causes for the spotting .

You will need a gynecological examination, a pregnancy test and a transvaginal ultrasound. Probably the doctor will also order a pap smear and tests to rule out sexually transmitted diseases if he finds changes that justify these tests.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
