What Causes Wrist Swelling After Getting Radius Surgery With Metal Implant?

I fractured my left radius in august last year and have a metal plate. Now nearly a year later the top of my wrist is stiff and cramped which is getting worse by the day. It is now extending to my fingers and has slight swelling and the slightest bump on the top of my wrist/hand Should I be worried and what causes this?
