What Causes Yeast Infection In The Groin Area?

Currently, my yeast infection that I am prescribed a cream to use to calm the rash and pain - and sometimes gets rid of the symptoms...but tonight...the pain and ugliness of the rash is concerning. Only the left groin area tonight, but sometimes on the underarms and/or chest area. I am slightly overweight (based on BMI), but I do fear it is related to food and alcohol consumption. The pain and discomfort tonight (actually last 2 days) is becoming very taxing. Why? What is going on? My primary care states that our body changes every 7 years - yah - I get that, but I have taken relatively good care of myself...

Good Morning,
Let me try to shed some light on what might be happening. In fact, many of my overweight clients that come to me suffer from this problem.

With my other patients, the problem seems to be the folds of skin in certain areas of the body cause trapped moisture and lack of oxygen to develop in that area of skin fold. This is a prime environment for the yeast to grow.

You are using the correct treatment, a yeast ointment to the affected area. In addition (and everyone complains about this), after applying the ointment, find a private place where you can hold the fold of skin away from the infected area and allow air circulation. Getting good air flow to the infected area will speed recovery.

The pill for systemic yeast or yeast recurrences is no longer available in US due to safety issues.

Next, and most importantly, please stay away from juice (only fresh fruit) and all added sugar/sugary desserts. Alcohol is not helpful either. But first and foremost, get the sugar out of your diet - it feeds the yeast promoting growth in my experience in treating clients. Read labels for sugar. Anything that ends in an -ose is a sugar. Sucrose, lactose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, beet sugar- are all terms to look for and avoid.

Finally, to avoid recurrences evaluate how much weight you need to lose and start a weight loss program along with an exercise program. Work on toning up the areas that get the rash so it is firmer tissue less prone to infection.

A hypoallergenic multiple vitamin might address any deficiencies in your diet that you or I am not aware of .Individuals who like alcohol most commonly are deficient in B vitamins - sometimes to the extent it affects their cognition and balance. The multivitamin should have your daily need of chromium to address any blood sugar metabolism issues and, preferably, I would like to see the folate in this form (L-5 MTHF, or the methalated form of folate). Why methylated?Folate is a generic term referring to both natural folates in food and folic acid, the synthetic form used in supplements and fortified food. Folate is critical in the metabolism of nucleic acid precursors and several amino acids, as well as in methylation reactions. Absorption of the folate and repair of methylation reactions is encouraged by taking folate in this form. Most professional supplement companies will carry this type of multivitamin depending on which country you live in (.i.e. Thorne, Pure Encapsulations, Wellevate, Metagenics. . .)

Specific nutrients affected by alcohol:

Vitamin B1 (thiamin)- deficiencies trigger depression and irritability and can cause neurological and cardiac disorders among alcoholics.
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)- In 1982 an article published in the British Journal of Psychiatry reported that every one of 172 successive patients admitted to a British psychiatric hospital for treatment for depression was deficient in B2.
Vitamin B3 (niacin)- depletion causes anxiety, depression, apprehension and fatigue.
Pantothenic acid- symptoms of deficiency are fatigue, chronic stress and depression.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)- deficiencies can disrupt the formation of neurotransmitters.
Vitamin B12– deficiency will cause depression.
Folic Acid- deficiency is a common cause of depression.

Keep track of your blood sugar as well because I see yeast problems in my patients with diabetes quite frequently and not necessarily due to weight.

I do hope this answers your question. I am available for further consultation by writing to https://www.bit.ly/askkathyshattler here at Healthcare Magic.
