What Causes Yellow Fluid Discharge From Gums After Mouth Surgery?

Hi I got a mouth operation sort of about 10 days ago .. It's was a tooth extraction in the dentist chair in my lower front jaw .. I got stitches and a mouth plaster .. Today is day 8 since got it and on Monday I got in again for check up..But today I noticed when I pressed it I got a funny taste and not a blood taste so I checked and its a yellow coloured liquid ... I wanted to know if I must freak out? Will I loose my jaw or what? Can it be fixed .. I can't see what is going on under the plaster so it's nerve raking .. I am a smoker so I don't know if that could of caused it ..

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it is very much clear that you have infection in the gums post surgery and the yellow discharge is Pus..
You should immediately consult your treating dental surgeon and get evaluated and the dentist will do the necessary treatment like irrigation and prescribe you with broad spectrum antibiotics like Augmentin 875 mg for clearing the infection..
You need not to worry as the infection is treatable and can be taken care of very well and if treated early all will go well and you will not loose your jaw at all..
As you are a smoke you should completely stop smoking at least till you are healed completely because smoking delays healing as well as cause Inflammation of the healing tissues which can make them more prone to infection..

Hope this information helps..
