What Causes Yellow Pus Filled Area Behind Tongue?

Hi, i had a sore throat on the right side on sunday. On monday upon checking myself i noticed a yellow pussy area out of sight to the right of my tonsils. If you use a cotton bud to pull the flesh area forward you can see it more clearly.

I have also got a whitish/yellowish coating on the back of my tounge like dried clay.

I went to the doctors about the pussy area (which i thought was a peritonsillar abscess) on tuesday. She said she couldnt see anything, she didnt think it was a abscess and was more worried about my tounge. She prescribed Nystatin for my tounge (Thrush) and Penicillin for my mouth.

After 4 days of threatment my tounge has seen no change. The pussy sack has changed to a red pretruding lump sticking out with a pussy area around it. It has got no bigger.

I guess im looking for answers as to what this lump could be?

I have no signs of a sore throat anymore.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you are suffering from Peritonsillar Abscess secondary to bacterial infection causing Tonsillitis or Strep Throat..

The pussy sac will gradually reduce in size after taking antibiotics..
Along with antibiotics you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen.
Do warm saline gargles.

The white /yellowish coating on tongue can be due to fungal infection known as Thrush and taking antibiotics is a common factor causing thrush because antibiotics kills good bacterial present in mouth that is responsible for preventing infections.
This is a reason that you are unable to find improvement as you are still taking antibiotics..
Nothing to worry, consult your physician again and get evaluated and he can advise you to take oral antifungal medicines and nystatin gargles.
Sucking Clotrimazole lozenges will help..
Take more of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic..
