What Complications Can Arise During Delivery When Diagnosed With Low Lying Placenta?

Hello, I m now 33 weeks pregnant and just had a re-scan for low lying placenta, unfortunately its still low lying(hasn t moved any, was just 2.4cms away from cervix) and also was told that amniotic fluid(which is 9.3) is also a bit high than normal. So was given another scan at 36 weeks to reassess and decide if its going to be normal del or c-section. Baby wise everything is fine as of now and estimated to be around 2.3kgs. Will there be any compilations for the baby with the above signs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, greetings! Thanks for the query. Low lying placenta till 20 weeks of gestation is not a problem as it may move up. But if it doesn't correct tilll after 20 weeks of gestation, then it may prove to be a problem. The main complication with low lying placenta (placenta praevia) is spontaneous bleeding, usually painless. It can happen before labour too. High amounts of bleeding may lead to sudden circulatory collapse, low pulse rate. Mothers with placenta praevia may also deliver prematurely, before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Risk to the baby maybe minimized by immediate hospitalization and a caesarean section.
