What Could A Lump And Bruise Behind The Ear Of A Child Indicate?

My granddaughter has a lump behind her ear and a bruise and says it hurts. She had ear infections before but nothing like this. I don't think she has bumped it in any kind of way. But not sure she says she hasn't. Should it be checked out. Could it be a swollen lymph node.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the pain and bruised feeling behind the ear and with a history of ear infection clearly indicate that she has swollen POST-AURICULAR LYMPH NODE and the regional lymphadenopathy is seen in case of infections in the area drained by the particular group of lymph nodes..
You need not to worry about it as nothing seems serious because even after the infection subsides the swollen lymph nodes takes a comparatively longer time to resolve but as there is pain also present there can be relapse of infection in the ear or directly into the lymph node..
You can consult a Paediatrician and get her evaluated and if required the Paediatrician will prescribe her with Broad Spectrum Antibiotics like Amoxicillin which will resolve the infection and for pain tylenol or ibuprofen can be given..
