What Could Be A A Brown Discharge With Strong Smell During Periods?

I haven't had sex for a while, until last week--several times last week. I was on my period initially, but the discharge had a stronger smell then usual--and by the end of the week, the discharge was brown like diarrhea--and my period was over. I don't understand--did I puncture the wall between the vagina and colon? I know when I delivered my kids they had to cut me and it was pretty thin in that area after. Thank you for answering this important question. Should I douche? See the doctor? I'm 52 years old and have had an active sex life.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

There is nothing much to worry about this condition and no in no way you could puncture your colon. An ultrasound examination of whole abdomen will be required to rule out other causes. This condition can be due to local infection so a course of antibiotics will be required.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sujoy S. Bhattacharjee, OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine
