What Could Be Causing Mild/uncomfortable Painful Sore Throat?
Symptoms as of Sunday 5th Jan are: mild/uncomfortable sore throat when swallowing. Followed by coughing, which would make me cough up phlegm at times. This has persisted and gotten worse esp. over the last 4 days. Now the pain is localised to the bottom part of my throat right at the area where your trachea goes into the little 'nook' part of my bottom neck (alongside my collar bones). It feels like it is blocked and I cant swollow past it, as if somehting is lodged there....
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, such symptoms are seen in inflammation of Tonsils, which can be allergic ,viral or bacterial in origin. - Allergic tonsillitis is treated by anti allergic drugs,NSAIDs,gargles. - Viral infection can be controlled by drugs available over the counter- NSAIDs,oughs yrups, gargles ,within 4-5 days. - Long lasting trouble with bacterial infection needs investigations to point out causative bacteria & treatment accordingly. Consult an ENT specialist for that. Thanks.
