What Could Be Reasons For Swelling And Lump In Labia During 18th Week Of Pregnancy?
Hi, I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have noticed my left labia near my vaginal opening is swollen, and seems to have a smoothe lump under the skin. I can feel its sore from the swelling when I walk but its not unbearable, just making me uncomfortable. This has appeared over 1 day, never had before. I have been tested for stds as routine when pregnant, all clear. I'm just anxious of what it could be, and need some reassurance as my pregnant mind is in overdrive :( thank you. Jazmyn
The lump that you describe may be a bartholins cyst or a vulvovaginal cyst. Bartholins glands are present in the labia and sometimes their opening is blocked and fluid collects inside them leading to lumps. These may become infected and cause pain. Vaginal cysts also produce similar lumps though they are less likely to get infected.
The treatment for both is removal under anesthesia. You may also wait until delivery to deal with them but there will be a risk of infection in case it is a bartholins cyst. I suggest that you see your doctor get examined to confirm the diagnosis and discuss further treatment.
Hope I was able to answer your query. Thanks for using HCM.
