What Could Be The Large Spot On The Placenta?

I had a 20 week ultrasound and the Dr. said that there is a semi-large spot on my placenta and wants to see me back in 1.5 months. I expressed my concerns of worry, however, he seemed to feel pretty comfortable. I have no idea what this could be and have become very worried. Can you give me some lead-way on the possibilities of what this could possibly be?

Thank you!

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question. Large spots on placenta can be due to
1. Bleeding in the placenta
2. Calcification in the placenta
3. placental tumour, which is quite rare.
All three can lead to decrease in the growth of the fetus, and therefore I would suggest you get your ultrasound regularly done so that the growth restriction in the fetus can be detected early and managed timely.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
