What Could Be The Lump On The Uvula And Losing Weight, Feeling Weak And Tired?

A few weeks ago I found a hard yellow-ish lump (roughly the size of a pea) behind my uvula. up until around a week ago it has never caused me any discomfort but recently i have rapidly been losing weight, feeling weak and tired all the time and it feels as if i have something stuck in my throat and feel as if i need to cough all the time. please could you give me a rough idea as to what it could be until i am able to make an appointment to see a GP

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Your chronic cough could be due to the chronic irritation caused by the nodule in the uvula. If I were your doctor, i would refer you to a ENT specialist to better judge abut the nodule in your uvula, and also advise you for a routine blood tests like a CBC, ESR, BS, along with a X ray chest PA view to exclude any primary or secondary pahthology in the lungs. Depending on these preliminary clinical examination and investigation reports, need for other invasive tests like a biopsy of the nodular swelling of the uvula could be decided. Further management would depend on the investigation and biopsy report.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
