What Could Be The Reason For Having A Large Painful Lump On The Side Of My Neck And Stiffness On My Neck?

I woke up this morning with a large lump that is painful on the side of my neck my neck is also a little stiff. I had the dr I work for look at it and she was puzzled. It is not the Lymphnode it is on the side of it and it is getting larger thoughout the day. What should I do?
