What Could Be The Reason For Having Changes In My Menstrual Cycle After The Intake Of Doxycycline?
Hi I have been on doxycycline for acne for 5 months. Since I started taking it I have noticed a little change in my mentrual cycle. Last month I had my period twice, from Nov 3 until Nov 7 and again from Nov 28- until Dec 2. Now my period is 5 days late , and am not pregnant becacause the last time I had sex was in October 18 and I used a condom the first time and I used the pullout method the second time. I have the same symptons as if I going to have my period but nothing happens. This has never happened to me.
Hello Thanks for writing to us with your heatlh concern. Doxycycline has no known side effect of delaying the period. Please exclude a pregnancy by taking a test. You should consult a gynecologist for irregular cycles. Stress, anxiety, illness, weight gain, crash diets, changes in climate or sleep, ingestion of hormonal medications - all this can alter the normal menstrual pattern. Also, it is possible that there are other conditions affecting the periods. These include - thyroid hormone imbalances, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometrial hyperplasia etc. Please consult a doctor to rule these out. This would be possible by a pelvic ultrasound scan and relevant blood investigations. All the best.
