What Could Be The Reason For Having Swelling And Redness In My Face?

I have a small reddened area below my right eye. Sometimes in the morning when I wake up, the right side of my face is swollen. It is tender when I press on my cheek bone. Now some of the redness is on my left side as well. Looks like a fine red rash under the skin. I had an x-ray to determine if I had a sinus problem - it was negative. The ER doctor told me it was a broken blood vessel - he ordered me Prednisone - it helped for a short period of time, but has come back.
