What Could Be The Reason For Having Swelling In Face And Lips After Eating Monk Fish?
Husband ate monk fish for dinner last night. This afternoon his left side of his face swelled up and then later his lips-especially the top lip and the area between the lip and the nose. He said it doesn't hurt. The swelling on the left cheek area is going down but not the lip area.
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. From you history and description, it seems that your husband has developed angioedema probably as a reaction to eating monk fish. He will benefit from taking a short course of oral steroid like prednisolone for 3-5 days. You could also give him antihistamine like loratidine in the morning and benadryl at bedtime for 3- 5 days. If the swelling is worsening and /or if he is having difficulty in breathing, please visit your GP. He should avoid eating monk fish in the future as it could trigger the reaction again. Hope this helps you. Take care.
