Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Cause Extreme Hunger During The Night Despite Having Dinner?
it seems like when I lay down to go to bed I get extremely hungry. It doesn t matter if I ve had a good dinner or not. Like tonight I had rice, 3 kinds of vegetables, and fish for dinner with a little bit of ice cream for dessert. If I don t get up and eat when I m hungry I ll stay awake or lightly sleep the whole night and usually end up with hot flashes & sweats
As you are not quantifying the actual amount you are eating at dinner time and how much you eat throughout the day, I can assume that your body is hungry because you're not eating a satisfactory amount. Are you highly active during the day? Have you recently been reducing your intake? May I suggest you keep a food diary of what you eat and how much activity you are engaging in. Eating 5-6 small meals per day keeps your sugar levels raised adequately so that your body is well nourished. At night, may I suggest you consume some bread with a hot milky drink. Bread keeps in the system for longer and the milk has 'lactose' which is 'sugar' or energy which stays in your body for a longer time than vegetables or fruit at night. Please contact me again if you have any further questions.
