My 16 year old daughter has periods lasting for 8-9 days, heavy for 3 days. Menache at the age of 11.5 years. Initially periods used to be delayed and lasting very long and heavy. now cycle is regular for last 1 year. her hemoglobin is 8.9 gm%. This time LMP was 10th April, and lasted till 19th April. Started mild spotting again on 25th April and still continuing. USG pelvis shows bilateral PCOD. She is very thin built.

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

I have gone through your question and I understand your concern. Once menarche comes, the periods are very irregular as the body cannot produce the hormones properly for at least 2 years.

The symptoms you mentioned in your question are the features of PCOD. She needs to take a proper treatment. Avoid taking junk foods. Exercise and walk for at least 40 minutes in a day.

And it will be better for her to get married at an early age because in 90% cases PCOD leads to infertility, chances of infertility may increase even more with age.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Naira Jahangir,
