Hi,

Hormonal imbalance is the main cause of delayed or irregular or scanty menstrual bleeding. The cause of irregular periods such as polycystic ovaries, obesity, anemia and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated effectively. Ultrasound pelvis, FSH LH hormone ratio, thyroid profile and blood sugar level, body mass index is essential to identify the cause of irregular periods.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
