Hi, I have the non hormonal coil fitted. I am usually very regular with my periods however I have misse the last two. I have taken 3 pregnancy test all of which were negative. I have had some discolored discharge brownish/ blood stained that lasts a day or so then dissappears. My vagina has also started smelling slightly. what is causing this? YYYY@YYYY
Non hormonal intrauterine contraceptive devices. For example, copper devices can lead to side effects like irregular periods, heavy menstrual flow, inter-menstrual spotting, etc. Usually the side effects will subside in first few months. As your pregnancy test kits gave negative results and also as the IUCDs are having a high protection rate the possibility of pregnancy is less.
Compared with normal women, women with IUCD are more prone to pelvic infections. So, if the smell and the spotting persist, better to consult your Gynecologist once and get examined. By clinical examination the possibility of pelvic infection can be ruled out. Treatment can be planned accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
