What Could Cause Pain In The Ear With A Pressure Feeling Inside It?
I just got a really bad pain in my right ear, It feels like when I'm on a plane and I need to hold my nose and blow to release pressure but when I do this the pain gets worse. I'm worried because I got a virius in my left ear 3 years ago and lost my hearing from it. Should I ring my doctor?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in the ear with a pressure feeling inside it which is due to ear wax accumulation, fluid accumulation, ear infection which sometimes remain persistent and leads to recurrent otitis media and ear pain. As your problem exaggerates on a plane it is because of negative pressure inside ear due to Eustachian tube dysfunction. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic means to check level of infection. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics such as Levofloxacin at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory medications. You should take green tea daily in the morning, You should do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
