What Could Cause Redness On The Inner Corner Of The Eyes?

My 3 year old son's right eye started becoming really red in the inner corner and now for the last week or so it is now not only red but very dry and crusty. Also, now his inner corner of his left eye is starting to do the same thing. What could this be and what would have caused it? Thanks I really appreciate the help.
