Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
You definitely are at risk of a UTI (
urinary tract infection) after a surgical termination because they frequently use a catheter to drain your bladder during the surgery.
They usually give you an antibiotic to take to treat any potential sexually transmitted infections but these are not the correct antibiotics to treat a UTI.
I suggest you see the doctor or clinic back who performed the procedure for you, they can test your urine and prescribe you the correct antibiotic for the infection. Your
primary care physician or GYN may also be able to help you.
In the meantime, drink lots of fluids, especially cranberry juice (it helps to kill bacteria in your urine) and refrain from sexual activity. You should not put anything inside the vagina (including tampons, douching or non-intercourse sexual activity) for at least two weeks after any surgery on the
uterus, as it increases your risk of infection of you uterus.
I hope that I was able to answer your question and that my advice was helpful. Please see a health professional who can check your urine and prescribe the proper medication for your treatment.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
