What Could Cause Severe Itching On The Limbs, Back And Vagina, Also Under Medication For Diabetes And Hypertension?

I experience intense itching without warning a lot. I am diabetic and take many medications for this illness and of my high blood pressure condition. What can I do to get relief from the itching? The itching occurs mostly on my legs, feet, back and arms and vaginal areas. Is there some medication I can take or use to alleviate the itch? Currently, I am seeing my primary doctor for my diabetes and heart related problems. I am also seeing a kidney specialist on Wednesday of January 15, 2014. I would appreciate any advice you can share with me on this matter.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for severe itching on the limbs, back and vagina. It is difficult to make a exact diagnosis of your condition without a physical examination or at-least pictures to see if there are any skin lesions are present or not.

For the itching in vagina- it can be a part of candida infection in vagina due to high sugar level.

For the itching over rest of the parts- it can be due to simple allergic dermatitis again due to raised sugar level.

You check out your exact control of sugar by regular monitoring and by HbA1c level.
If I were your dermatologist then would have prescribed to apply an anti-fungal cream near vagina and prescribed an antihistamine benadryl or loratadine by mouth. The only precaution you must follow is not to touch, pinch pop or squeeze any of them other wise it can get infected and can cause complications.
