Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi i have been getting upper stomach pains after eating and they are very on and off, for an example the pain will last for about half an hour and then go away and about an hour later it will return, can you clarify what this might be or caused by? thankyou.
Hi! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. Upper abdominal pain following ingestion of food points to a few conditions like a gastric ulcer, or a gall stone disease and a possibility of pancreatitis as few of the main offenders. If I were your doctor, after a clinical assessment of your abdomen, I would advise you for few blood tests like a CBC, a blood sugar, a serum amylase and lipase, a LFT, and an ultrsound of the abdomen to know the status of the intra abdominal organs. Further management would depend on the results of clinical assessment and reports of the related investigations. Till then you could go for some anti spasmodic along with a proton pump inhibitor for a symptomatic relief.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
