What Could Cause Spotting Between Periods?

I am wondering if I could be pregnant. I want to take a pregnancy test but want to know if its too early. Im about three days away from when I should have my period. But, yesterday and then two days ago I had a little bit of spot bleeding that was brown and my temperature has been higher than usual. Is it possible and is it too early to take a pregnancy test?
