What Could Cause Tinnitus After Completing Cataract / Astigmatism Surgery?

Hi I had cararact / astigmatisn surgery three months ago. For the first week to ten days I thought my tinnitus was getting worse but then it began to disappear and have not had an episode since. Was this neuro thing or could it have happened because of the antibiotics I was prescribed ? Look firward to hearing from you, John Murray

Hi,

Too many drugs may cause symptoms of tinnitus. Out of these, some may cause the symptoms only with higher doses. Two of the common groups which might have caused tinnitus in your case may be--

- Analgesics like ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen etc. However, these may cause the symptoms rarely & usually in high doses. Also the symptoms caused by these are usually reversible & go by itself with stoppage of drug after sometimes.

Antibiotics particularly, aminoglycosides may also cause symptoms of tinnitus, which may be reversible or even long lasting, depending on dosage and duration of the use of drug.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
