Hi,

A cloudy area in pancreas on CAT scan could mean either pancreatitis or a mass in the region. It will help to know what problems is the patient having. If there is jaundice and pain in the abdomen then a mass causing obstruction to the flow of bile from liver to intestine along its route needs to be evaluated. If she is having acute pain and fluid collection in and around the pancreas then pancreatitis should be evaluated. There are blood tests like amylase which also might be done to confirm diagnosis of pancreatitis.

Ultrasound scan is at times more better to see the pancreatic duct and biliary channels in liver. Even masses and blood flow in the area can be better seen on ultrasound. This is the reason ultrasound scan has been recommended.
