What Could Diarrhea With Constant Muscle Contractions Suggest?

My husband has just had a scary experience where he experienced severe stomach pains, diarreoh, extreme weakness, sweating, a feeling of being hot but actual temperature was 35degrees Centograde (95degrees farenheit) which is obviously very low, and contractions of muscles in his hands... This passed after about 1/2 hour. It has happened to him 3 or 4 times in the past but not recently... do you have any ideas what might be happening to him? Thank you for your help.
