What Could Difficulty In Swallowing Followed By Gagging Post Food Intake Indicate?
my Husband is 60 yrs old he is having trouble eating and has lost 20 lbs in a month he has had a upper gi and also a cat scan on sinus everthing show nothing he also had the swallow test with the upper gi we have a appointment with a gAStroligst in 2 weeks when he swallows food he feels like it gets stuck in hes throat and it starts to boil up and part of it comes back up can you help with what to do
The symptoms your husband is having are suggestive of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). As the CT scan has not shown any abnormality, it’s the reflux of acid that might be causing these symptoms. Anti acids like pantoprazole can be taken on empty stomach in the morning for relief. As you have an appointment with gastroenterologist soon, which is the next best thing you should do. He will be able to examine your husband and might run few more tests and depending on the results, he will be treated appropriately.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
