What Could Discomfort In Tailbone With Numbness In Toes Indicate?
Hi, I am a 34 year old mom to a four year old and a 1 year old. For the past four months I have been experiencing tailbone pain/discomfort when I m sitting and rising to a standing position. I am under chiropractic care and have experienced some relief. My lower back also hurts (but this is a common symptom for me) and tonight I discovered that the middle toe on my right foot is slightly numb. I have normal feeling on top of the toe, but underneath it feels numb. Any ideas??
Hello and welcome to HCM, Discomfort and pain in the tail bone region could be due to nerve compression, inflammation or fracture of the tail bone. The chances of fracture are less because fracture is quite painful condition making movement very restricted. On the other hand, nerve compression is more likely. Abnormalities of disc tend to produce neurological deficit in the region of distribution of the nerve. The numbness felt on under surface of toes could be due to compression of nerve at the level of tail bone. I suggest you to consult your orthopedician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
