What Could Enlarged, Painful And Bright Veins In Arms Indicate?

I have had a history of blood clots in the sub arteries in my arm and near my neck. Currently the veins on my arm are enlarged and bright color, have had pain in it the last 4-5 days and now have noticed a lump in it, what could it be? Should I see a physician?

Hi,

Given the past history of blood clots (I assume it was venous thrombosis), painful and enlarged veins with overlying discolouration may indicate recurring thrombosis. As this needs evaluation and management without delay, kindly see your physician.

Delay can lead to complications from dislodgement of the thrombus. You may be asked for a venous Doppler of the limb. Meanwhile, avoid massaging the area.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
