What Could Feeling Of Smelling Cigarette Smoke With Fatigue And Nausea Indicate?

Hi, I have been smelling cigarette smoke off and on for the last 3-4 weeks, with the condition becoming worse this past week. I feel tired and a bit nauseous, too, and I feel pressure in my head. What could be causing these feelings and what should I do? Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Your condition is called olfactory hallucinations or phantosmia. A few causes are ageing, head trauma, temporal lobe seizures, inflamed sinuses, brain tumors, certain medications and Parkinson's disease. You don't need to worry. You may consult a neuro-physician for further evaluation that may include few investigations like CT brain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Richa Agarwal, OBGYN
