What Could Fluttering And Moving Feeling In Abdomen Indicate?

Hi. I am feeling strange sensations in my stomach that feels exactly like a baby moving or kicking. This has been happening for a few weeks and the movements have been getting more noticeable to me - today has been the most active day for these. I am 37 years old and have 3 children aged 17, 7 and 5. All were natural births with no complications. My husband had a vasectomy approximately 3 years ago, and I have not had a period in 4 years. Please could you tell me what these movements could be? I cannot imagine at all that I could be pregnant, but there is no other way to describe the feeling. Thankyou

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history well and understood the concerns.
Such a condition is called as Pseudocyesis :
Means there is no actual pregnancy but the patient gets all the signs and symptoms. This is confirmed by a negative ultrasonography. The patient who has the extreme desire of having Motherhood again develops this sort of a problem. No one really knows the reason and the exact mechanism by which this happens.
I would advise you to consult a Senior Gynecologist who has seen such more cases for counselling and further management.
Also take care to get the X-ray of abdomen in standing position and Ultrasonography of whole abdomen and pelvis to any other possible problems like intestinal obstruction or so.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
