What Could Have Caused Faint With Drooling?

I was at a park playing kickball and I was bit by something small and black. I was unable to identify it as I quickly swatted the area when I felt a bite on the upper part of my knee. Almost immediately, I began to feel dizzy and my hands began to turn slightly red and puffy. I went to sit down on a bench and lost control of my motor skills. Those around me said that I passed out several times and was drooling and staring blankly in front of me. Then I threw up on myself as they tried to keep me sitting up. At times, I could hear what people were saying around me but could not respond verbally or physically. They said this lasted for 3 to 5 minutes until EMS came. By then, I was able to regain control of my motor skills. I declined to go to the hospital because of financial issues.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Transient episode of loss of motor and verbal skills with fainting is most likely feature of concussion injury (may be coup or counter coup) via underlying head injury from various reasons and methods. Depending upon which part of the brain is affected, one gets the symptoms in form of vomit, vertigo, visual, hearing disturbances with or without motor issues. Though you have not opted medical evaluation due to financial issues, I would recommend a primary evaluation with your GP for further guidance regarding need of CT brain or not. As there are many instances where later on cerebral perfusion pressure changes remit various clinical manifestations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
