What Could Increased Monocytes In Following The Blood Work Suggest?

My son (age 12) recent blood work came back with a few flags on it. One is confusing us: the monocytes are high at 12.2. They have increased, almost doubled, since 2011. He was diagnosed with cancer last year (Soft-tissue Sarcoma/Spindle Cell/MPNST) but has been cancer-free for 1 year. Should we be concerned with a high monocytes level? Thank you

Dear concerned parent,
Given the past history of your child, such a high monocyte count is definitely alarming. It is advisable to get back to your oncologist at the earliest.
But the best part is your early recognition of this blood derangement, so nothing untoward is expected. In case your child has had any recent infection, monocytes may be raised too. Pls give details of any other symptoms that your child may be suffering for proper assessment of the same.

Keep your spirits up,
god bless the kid,
regards,
Dr. Sonia
