What Could Irritation At The Tip Of Penis Post Unprotected Sex Indicate?

I had unprotected sex and three days later felt an irritation at the tip of my penis. Does not hurt to urinate, no discharge at all. It has now been a week since the sex and 4 days since the irritation started. Was much better on day three but irritated again that night. Irritation is worse at night but still no discharge. I am going to Dr. tomorrow but wanted to know if you had any advice I can take with me. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Tip of penis irritation or pain can be due to many causes.

1. Bladder infection is the commonest cause where the irritation is referred to the tip of penis (distal urethra).
2. Sometimes stones in the urinary tract can lead to irritation referred to tip of penis.
3. Tip of the penis skin is very sensitive and application of irritant soap can cause irritation.
5. STDs also cause such symptoms but you have got yourself tested negative.
6. Hygiene is important to reduce the occurrence of some forms of irritation on the tip of the penis. This involves cleaning the penis daily and also taking a shower.

I suggest you consider the above mentioned causes leading to penile irritation and consult the urologist.

If necessary a ultrasound scan on full bladder and urine culture test might be done.

Hope your query is answered.

Regards,
