What Could It Be If Having Sharp, Dull Ache In Left Breast?

I am feeling sharp and dull aches in my left breast whenever I drink fluids and eat certain foods. It started a few weeks ago, but at first it started with just pain in my left breast where I had previously had a fibyrocyst removed about 18 years ago. I didn t start having symptoms until after I was taking a steroid and antibiotic for an infection in my jaw. I am just curious of what issues I could be having. I have a mammogram and an ultrasound scheduled for my breast to be looked at, but until then. What s the possibilities?

Hi,

According to your description the possibilities are if the pain occurs only during eating and swallowing and not continuous pain in breast or while touching, the possibilities are, Gastroesophageal reflux disease or rarely pouch in esophagus, which can present with pain while taking food or swallowing.
Steroids and antibiotics can aggravate these problems.

If the pain in breast is continuous or can be noted while touching, the possibilities are mastitis, fibrocystic disease, premenstrual hormonal changes etc. Your sonomammography and mammogram can help in finding out the problem and treatment can be taken accordingly. Taking antacids along with anti emetics can relieve the symptoms due to Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
