What Could Large, Painful Lump On The Right Side Of C1 Vertebrae Indicate?

I ve been sleeping on a couch for approx. 3 weeks and have noticed a large lump/bump has developed on the right side of my C1 vertebrae. I am going to a doctor next week to have it evaluated, I was wondering if a tumor or osteophyte can develop that quickly? It seems to have developed within weeks and is slightly painful to the touch but causes my neck to become tired after a while. It is very hard to the touch. It is about the size of a penny.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Is the lump is hard and painful? The lump you have seems to be an enlarged lymph node. The cause of this can bee some sort of infection / infestation in your scalp (back and lateral side, skin of the neck). Sides and back of it, shoulder, nasopharynx, oropharynx / thyroid. You can take tab Ibuprofen, over the counter till you can consult your doctor for pin pointing the cause and start with suitable antibiotic.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
