Hello,

Painful swollen glands of neck and mouth commonly are due to canker sore / cold sores, allergy, salivary gland disorder (benign / malignant), strep throat or serious medical conditions like head/neck cancer, oral cancer, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT or GP. Get all swab / sputum tests, blood tests, Imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI) done to detect the pathology causing infection and symptoms.

Your treating doctor may tell you to do STD tests if sexually active and biopsy of the lymph nodes if required. You will be treated with medicines (antibiotic / antivirals) or surgery will depend on the severity of the symptoms detected. You can take analgesic for pain relieve and NSAIDS to ease swelling and inflammations. To ease muscle pain in the neck you can apply warm compress or do light stretch exercises. Take soft, semi solid food like oats, porridge, custard. Take plenty of water. Stay well hydrated. Rinse your mouth and gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times daily.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
