What Could Persistent Pain In Lower Abdomen While Having IBS Indicate?

for the last month I have been having a pain in lower left abdomen. Had a pelvic exam, nothing. Had an ultra sound, nothing. I have IBS. I feel like I need to have a bowel movement constantly. I can have a regular movement one time, then the next several are small and thin. I have been nauseated but not vomiting. My appetite has decreased, but I still do eat. The pain in my abdomen was off and on but now is more constant. Not severe, but discomfortable. What do you think it is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to irritable bowel syndrome. I recommend to use an over the counter option such as Imodium to treat the frequent bowel movements. I also recommend using daily probiotics. I recommend to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms such as spicy or too acidic foods.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
