What Could Prolonged Coughing In A Toddler Indicate?
My almost 4 year old has been coughing quite disturbingly for over a month now. We did see a doctor whom àssured us it wasn t pnemonia, prescribed ventalin with chamber to keep airway open to keep her from vommitting (which she was doing before, coughing, losing breath, then vomit). Said to know that she will still cough about another week to clear it out but after that, should be OK. She is still coughing and sounds like she has no breath only she s not vommitting. Any ideas?

Has the doctor advised any blood tests during this time? Apart from Ventolin any other medicines were prescribed to her, like antibiotics? As the cough is there for a long time, have you observed any other symptoms that changed over this time? Is there any whooping sound that is observed by you while she coughs?
It can be a bacterial infection. I suggest visit your doctor again or you can consult another pediatrician if you could. As the kid might need to get physical examination done again along with imaging tests like chest X-ray as well as some blood tests to know if any infectious cause is there behind this prolonged cough along with breathing difficulty. Once the cause is clear, it will be easier to treat her effectively.
