What Could Prolonged Double Vision Indicate?

I have been having double vision for about 3 weeks. I have had an MRI and MRA done. The doctor told me the tests did not show any tumors, aneurysms, strokes. I was just told to cope with it for about 6 months and that this double vision would go away. I ve covered one eye as the doctor told me. Should I see other medical help from a different ophthalmologist?

Hello,

I would like to know your age and past medical history. In young patients, double vision could be related to possible MS. In older patients, it could be related to a stroke. The fact that MRI and MRA were normal, means that we can exclude MS and stroke. Other possible causes remain a possible nerve inflammation or damage of the eye movement nerves. In such case a vitamin and steroids could be helpful. You should discuss with your doctor on these issues.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
