What Could Prominent Perivascular Space In CT Scan Suggest?
Hi Doctor, I went for CT scan due to headache problems, The report says, " There is evidence of a very small hypodense focus in the left lobe, without any peri- lesional edema or post contrast enhancement, likely to be a prominent perivascular space". Can you let me what does this mean in simple lay man's language

1. There is a hypo dense area noted in the CT head ( black area - lower density area) in the left lobe / hemisphere.
2.In most of the cases there is oedema adjacent to the lesion in pathological conditions - but not seen in your case.
3.If think in terms of any lesion -it usually enhance ( take contrast - which was injected at the time of scan) but it has not taken it - so mass lesion ruled out as report says.
4.So doctor suspecting a vascular / perivascular space.
5.In this case i would recommend to have a followup scan in a month time, if money is not an issue - MRI brain will be excellent to assess the cause and correlate the findings - i would suggest it. Good luck.
