What Could Random Increase In Menstrual Flow Suggest?

My wife had her menstrual Cycle on 22nd of July and got over on 27th. Yesterday night she had very heavy sudden bleeding? What is the reason for that? Is it something that I need to be careful about. Her age is 36-37 and we have jsut got married about a month back. I am 41. Please advise.
