What Could Recurring, On And Off Sharp Pain From Right Ear To Side Of Neck Be?
I have a burst of pain running from my right ear down the side of my neck. It occurs every 30-60 seconds for a few hours. I take an Advil, then it diminishes but comes back a few hours later. I feel fine otherwise. This has been going on for two days now. The pain is really sharp and last for two seconds. thank you.
The intermittent episodes of sharp pain may be neuralgia (nerve related pain). Neuralgia can result in different abnormal sensations- sharp, sticking, numbness, tingling, burning.
It is due to abnormal structure or function of the nerves which may be temporary or permanent. Some causes are: (1) trauma (2)vitamin deficiency particularly b12 or folate (3)diabetes (4)infection (5)exposure to toxins (6)stroke, ms (6)some autoimmune diseases (7)idiopathic- cause is not known
If the pain continues, you may want to consider visiting your doctor for an assessment. There are medications that are effective in treating this type of pain.
I hope this helps
