What Could Recurring Sharp Pain In Back Of Head Radiating To Ear Indicate?

I get very sharp pains in the back left side of my head level to my ear that lasts aprox 30 to 40 seconds. it is always in the very same place and the pain in sharp, stops me in my tracks and seems to come and go for no apparent reason or follow any particular pattern of activity. what could be the cause of this?
