What are the possible DDx for the following case? 56 year-old female present with neck pain of many months duration. The patient cannot identify any specific incident to correlate with the onset of pain. She describes the pain as a diffuse ache throughout the her neck and occasionally causes a headache. Over the past month she has noticed a tendency for her neck to rotate to the left and get stuck in that position which she feels is due to a muscle spasm. She has noticed that when her neck is in spasm and rotated that if she gently strokes her face the spasm subsides and she can turn her head again.
Cervical spondylosis is an age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal discs in your neck which can cause symptoms like neck spasm or dizziness. As the discs dehydrate and shrink, signs of osteoarthritis develop, including bony projections along the edges of bones (bone spurs). X ray neck should be taken to rule out the condition.
